If you're reading this, congratulations - you've somehow scrolled back to the beginning of our blog archive, back to when this blog had zero readers.

No but really, what's Downdog?

Downdog is a company we formed at the end of 2024 so that we could do some independent SRE consulting. After a year of intense client work, we started looking at whether there were any tools we could extract out into products. We are currently balancing our time between client work and product development.

Who is "we"?

Downdog is (currently) Isobel Redelmeier and Spike Lindsey. We've been SREs for most of our careers, with brief initial stints as app developers and consultants at well-known(ish) XP consultancies.

We fall squarely into the "we have seen some wild shit" category of SREs, and are routinely extremely paranoid about things most people have never considered being scared of. It's fun being us (kinda).

Why should I read this?

Honestly, at this stage, we don't know! We started this blog to kick ourselves out of engineer-mode and figure out how to reach people outside of our friendly Toronto network. We also wanted a way to hold ourselves accountable to writing more - a weekly (ish) blog felt like a good way to do it.
